The Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services (DPS) will provide free residential deck maintenance inspections during the month of May as part of its annual Building Safety Month campaign. The program began on May 1 and is limited to 250 appointments. Requests must be from the homeowner and must not be for a deck that has previously received a DPS deck inspection. Balconies are also excluded from the program.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been delivering on the promise to protect communities from the harmful effects of toxic substances, including cancer-causing agents. Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are a series of man-made chemical compounds that persist in the environment for long periods of time.
Montgomery County Ride On Buses, including Ride On ExtRa, Ride On Flex and Flash buses, are free for county residents aged 5 to 18 (or older if still enrolled in high school). The Youth Cruiser SmarTrip® card provides free rides throughout the year and replaces the need to use school IDs on the bus. The card also waives fares on most Metro buses that operate around the county.
On July 11, volunteers, family members and friends gathered at Asbury Methodist Village to recognize three Gaithersburg Meals On Wheels volunteers. Senator Nancy King (also a resident of Montgomery Village) presented the citations. In the late 1980s to early 1990s, Senate King coordinated Gaithersburg Meals On Wheels and served on its Board. Here is a brief background on the three recognized volunteers.
