Share a book, take a book from the Little Free Library
Books have become a little more accessible in Montgomery Village. On Tuesday, August 22, Girl Scout Troop #5121 installed a Little Free Library near the notice boards outside of the main entrance at Lake Marion Community Center. Over the summer, Troop #5121 wrapped up their “Outdoor Journeys” unit, which recognizes the importance of utilizing their interests and skills to make a difference in their community. After discovering that the troop members all had a common interest in reading, the idea for creating the library for book accessibility in Montgomery Village took shape.
Troop members donated their own personal books to fill the library, and Village residents are encouraged to donate their own gently used books for others to read if they take a book from the library. It is the hope of the troop to be as inclusive as possible, and welcomes all genres, languages, subjects and reading levels. Beyond the gift of reading and learning, sharing books is a great way to experience and encourage diversity in the community.
In case you’ve never used a Little Free Library before, it is a free book-sharing box where anyone may take a book or share a book. It functions on the honor system. You do not need to share a book in order to take one, and you don’t have to return the book you borrowed. However, to keep the library full of great choices, you are welcome to return books you borrow so others can enjoy them and also donate your own books.
Lake Marion’s Little Free Library has been added to the search database by Troop #5121 and joins more than 150,000 libraries in the United States. For more information about the Little Free Library program, visit https://littlefreelibrary.org/map/.
