When the Kettler Brothers planned Montgomery Village, they included lots for places of worship. Initially, the lots were sold to individual congregations, but eventually they were donated and gratuities were paid back to those who had already purchased them. The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce, located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, is a vibrant, dynamic organization of 400 members representing more than 20,000 employees in the Montgomery County Upcounty.
Friends of Whetstone Lake (F.O.W.L.)
This community group, in conjunction with MVF, organizes quarterly cleanups of Lake Whetstone Park, including the boat house, walking path/shoreline and the lake.
The Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC) of Montgomery County administers rental assistance programs, such as the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) and Public Housing programs; finances, develops, and manages properties; offers mortgage programs for first-time homebuyers (and is one of the few housing authorities in the country that is empowered to issue bonds to fund those programs; and works to provide affordable housing and supportive services for Montgomery County residents.
Commission on Common Ownership Communities (CCOC)
This Montgomery County commission advises the County Executive and the County Council on ways to handle common ownership of property in communities; promotes public awareness of the rights and obligations of living in common ownership communities; eliminates disputes; and maintains property values and quality of life in community associations.
