MVF seeks community input on two new park amenities

The Department of Recreation and Parks Strategic Plan identified bocce ball and disc golf as potential amenities to bring more sporting options to Montgomery Village. In April, the MVF Board of Directors approved moving forward to collect community input on these exciting projects.

Bocce ball is a low-key outdoor game that is great for all ages. How it works: 2-8 players bowl weighted balls on a narrow court in an attempt to get close to the target ball. The game uses skill and strategy; but with easy-to-learn rules, it is a great game for the whole family. Potential locations for bocce courts are Lake Whetstone Park and William Hurley Park.

Disc Golf is similar to its namesake. How it works: Players use throwing discs or frisbees to get to the target in the fewest number of throws. A nine-hole course is being proposed for installation in the open space behind the MVF Office and the Apple Ridge Recreation Area. These two properties are connected through a tunnel under Apple Ridge Road. The concepts for this course range from a disc golf course to a combined disc and soccer golf course.

MVF Recreation and Parks is seeking community input on the proposed options and locations. Two separate surveys for the amenities are available online and will close on Friday, September 13. There will also be two Community Forums hosted on Zoom to gain additional input from residents. We look forward to lots of community engagement on these potential park projects.
