Summer starts here: 5 must-attend summer events in the Village

Looking for things to do this summer? Montgomery Village is entering the summer season in full force, prepping for family fun and annual traditions you won’t want to miss. Mark your calendars and get ready to join your community and neighbors at these signature events.

 

MV Independence Day Parade and Celebration

Friday, July 3 | 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Apple Ridge Recreation Area (10101 Apple Ridge Road)

Celebrate Independence Day with a hometown parade featuring fire engines, community groups, colorful floats, and more. After the parade, head to Apple Ridge for family festivities, including lawn games, carnival rides, a petting zoo, live music, food trucks, and vendor tables. It is a day steeped in Village tradition and celebration.

Summers at South Valley Park

Select Saturdays | 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Gordon W. Bowie Pavilion (19003 Watkins Mill Road)

Enjoy free music under the stars with bands like The Fearless Eras, Philadelphia Freedom, The Reagan Years, and more. Plus, on select Fridays, come out for Moonlight Movie starting at 7:30 p.m. Whether you’re here for live music or a movie night with family and friends, bring lawn chairs and blankets, pack a picnic, and enjoy the fun.

KidjAM

Wednesdays in July | 10 a.m.

Apple Ridge Recreation Area (10101 Apple Ridge Road)

Bring the kids for a month of music and movement, it’ll be over before you know it. Each Wednesday features a different high-energy performer, all designed to bring a smile to your child’s face. This is the perfect way to break up the week and enjoy time with the whole family.

Touch-A-Truck

Saturday, Aug. 1 | 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

North Creek Community Center (20125 Arrowhead Road)

Experience your favorite trucks and equipment up close and learn from their operators. This hands-on event is a wonderful opportunity for children and offers fun for the family. From fire trucks to tractors, come see a wide assortment of unique vehicles.

Doggie Paddle Swim

Saturday, Aug. 22 | 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Whetstone Pool (19140 Brooke Grove Court)

Whether or not you’re a pet owner, you can wrap up the pool season with a splash. This one is for the dogs. Watch your furry friend enjoy the water and receive a complimentary “Puppachino” after the swim. Dogs must be licensed and have proof of registration.

Looking into the fall

As summer winds down, don’t forget about our fall traditions. Keep an eye out for The Great Pumpkin Race and Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at North Creek Community Center (20125 Arrowhead Road).

Our fall and winter seasons are full of family-friendly favorites, including the Fall Flea Market, Holiday Market, Floating Pumpkin Patch, Flashlight Halloween Hunt, Christmas Tree Lighting, and Hot Chocolate with Santa. Come out, have fun, and see you at our events.
