The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) invites residents to give broken belongings a second chance at the Fix-It Clinic on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Gaithersburg Library, 18330 Montgomery Village Avenue. This free community event helps residents reduce waste, learn practical repair skills, and extend the life of everyday items with hands-on guidance from volunteer fixers. Participants can bring items needing repair, including electronics, small appliances, bicycles, clothing and textiles, jewelry, and household items. Advance registration is required for repair appointments, with a limit of two items per person.
Please do NOT bring the following items:
- Safety-Critical Items: helmets, car seat, smoke alarm, medical devices, pressurized systems, safety equipment
- High-Voltage/ High-Energy Electronics: E-bike or scooter batteries, CRT TVs
- Items too large, dirty, or hazardous: large appliances, fuel-contaminated tools, mold or pest-infested items, items leaking fuel, oil, or unknown fluids
- Items with a known hazard
- Firearms, tasers, or stun devices
- Other items may be rejected at the discretion of the organizers
