Gaithersburg Meals on Wheels is seeking volunteers

Gaithersburg Meals on Wheels, Inc. is seeking volunteers to deliver meals at lunchtime to elderly and disabled shut-ins in the greater Gaithersburg area, including Montgomery Village and Washington Grove. Meals are prepared at Asbury Methodist Village, 333 Russell Avenue and picked up by volunteer drivers between 10:30 and 11:15 a.m., Monday through Friday. Containers are provided for carrying the meals, and delivery takes under two hours, with no more than 12 clients on each route. Volunteers are asked to drive a minimum of once every other week, 2 or 3 days a month, on a consistent schedule. Schedules can be adjusted for when volunteers need to take time off.

Volunteers make deliveries using their own car and can drive alone or as teams with friends or relatives for a worthwhile and productive way to give back to our community. Training is provided. If volunteers are unable to drive, we are also seeking community members to help with answering emails, public relations, website design, legal advice, volunteer appreciation coordinators and other administrative matters.
