Thomas Choice Condominium

COMMUNITY-WIDE WATER SHUTOFF

UPDATE: Thursday, Jan. 9, 4 p.m.

Good afternoon—

S. L. Johnson Plumbing began the excavation this morning as planned to find conditions that were not anticipated. The decision was then made to again delay the repair project so as to minimize the potential of the water being turned off overnight. They are doing as much preparation as possible today, Thursday, Jan. 9. The water will not be turned off today. They will resume their work tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 10, at 9:00 AM, turning the water off at that time. The updated plan will be to complete the repair by early Friday evening when water service will be restored.

REVISED REPAIR PROJECT SCHEDULE:

FRIDAY, JAN. 10, 2025

  • S. L. Johnson Plumbing will continue excavating in the area of the leak, sometime after 9:00 AM.
  • Water service to the entire Thomas Choice Condominium community will be turned off sometime after 9:00 AM.
  • The objective is to locate the leak and repair the water main by 6:00 PM Friday evening after which water service will be restored. However, there is certainly the possibility that the water may not be turned on until later Friday evening or even the next morning, depending on the severity of the break. Please be assured that everything possible will be done to minimize the duration of the water outage. If necessary, S. L. Johnson crews will return to complete their repairs Saturday morning, Jan. 11.

MONDAY, JAN. 13, 2025 (anticipated but subject to change dependent upon the success of the earlier steps)

  • Upon completion of the repair and restoration of water service, WSSC will be contacted to schedule their required inspection.
  • The excavated area will be backfilled after WSSC approves the repair. S. L. Johnson Plumbing will then remove their equipment and the temporary fencing.
  • The work area will be reopened for parking and through traffic.

ADDITIONAL REMINDERS:

  • It is suggested that you store water in advance of the shut down for short term use. Please be sure that large containers of water are not accessible to children.
  • When water service is restored, you may experience discolored water or have air trapped in your water pipes.
  • After the water main repair is complete, it is recommended to flush the water pipes in your home using the following steps:
    • Run all COLD water taps until the water runs clear.
    • Begin with the lowest faucet in your home and then open the other faucets one at a time, moving from your lowest floor to your highest.
    • Once the water runs clear, turn off your faucets in the same order, lowest to highest.
    • You should also flush your refrigerator’s water line.

We are very sorry for the multiple delays this week and again say thank you for your patience and understanding.
