Village resident publishes new book about suffragist Alice Paul

Long-time Village resident and author Patricia Cuff has penned a new book, “Alice Paul, A Suffragist for Today”, available now. The latest in Cuff’s work continues her focus on historical pieces that bring the past to life for both young and adult readers; this one to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, granting women the right to vote.

Cuff spent 30 years in the classroom, and now uses her writing to continue educating audiences. Her previous published works have been published in Scholastic Search and Highlights magazines, The Washington Flyer and the Washingtonian. “Alice Paul, A Suffragist for Today” reflects Cuff’s use of historical facts to inform modern day challenges that support women’s issues and other relevant causes.

“Alice Paul, A Suffragist for Today” details Paul’s journey in the fight to gain the right for women to vote. It follows the real, gritty and implacable resistance of women in the early 20th century, and their trials to overcome injustice until the Anthony Amendment was ratified. Paul and others were repeatedly jailed for their demonstrations, but eventually won the support of 36 of the 48 states.
