Village Montessori School celebrates Earth Day

articles-630

On Saturday, April 23, students and their families from Village Montessori School (VMS) recognized Earth Day, albeit the day after, by collecting trash at Ed DeSimon Park and the surrounding area. Fifteen families and a number of VMS staff turned out that morning, ready to do their part in helping the earth and our community. This activity was the brainchild of a kindergarten student at VMS, supported by her parents, teachers and the VMS community.

Following the trash collection, families returned to Village Montessori School for a tree dedication to Maureen Sheridan Johnson, teacher at VMS. Maureen was one of the original teachers when the school was founded 34 years ago, and will be retiring after this school year. A new Norway spruce was planted while the families were cleaning up the park, and was ready to be dedicated afterward. The tree was purchased with donations from current and former VMS families, as well as Ruppert Nurseries.

VMS expresses sincere thanks to those individuals and the Ruppert family for thoughtful donations!
