Ride On Reimagined Bus Service Changes Begin Sunday, June 29
Starting Sunday, June 29, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will launch the first phase of its Ride On Reimagined plan. This includes new and updated routes, improved connections to Metro rail, longer service hours and free rides on all Ride On buses.
Metrobus is also updating its service on the same day with the goal of reducing service overlap, improving reliability, and making it easier for riders to get where they need to go. These updates are based on feedback collected from residents in the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Better Bus Network Study.
One of the biggest changes is the new zero-fare policy. All Ride On, Ride On extRa, Ride On Flex and Flash buses will be free to ride starting June 29. This removes a barrier for many riders and helps the county avoid spending $22 million to replace aging fare boxes.
The plan also includes expanded hours and more frequent service on weekends, especially in areas with high demand. The focus is on making public transit more convenient, reliable and accessible for everyone.
Riders can find detailed information about the upcoming changes and updated schedules at RideOnBus.com. The new schedules will also appear in the Ride On Trip Planner app once they go into effect.
