President's Message: Looking back and moving forward
by Doniele Ayres, MVF President
In 1965, the Montgomery County Council gave final approval to the biggest rezoning application in its history. February 28, 1966 was the groundbreaking on 1,767 acres of Montgomery Village, and on October 17, 1966, the Montgomery Village Foundation, Inc. (MVF) Articles of Incorporation were recorded with a mission statement setting for the purpose “to promote the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the community of Montgomery Village.” Next year, we will celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Montgomery Village and the Kettler Brothers’ vision.
The word “village” was chosen to promote a small-town feeling in the growing area around Washington, DC. I’ve been thinking about the growth of the Village as we add new homes, parks, recreational activities and the redevelopment of Lakeforest. The Kettler Brothers’ motto, “don’t simply build upon the land, improve upon it” has been the work of the MVF and its Board of Directors. The Village today is a larger community with a diverse population and various home styles and lifestyle options rooted in the original concepts of the developers.
The Montgomery Village logo was derived from an ancient symbol of friendship representing two people clasping hands in peace and harmony. We live together and we partner together. The MVF and your local homes corporation depend on you for the peace and harmony of our community. Thank you for making Montgomery Village your home!
