Interim EVP Report: Park Projects Underway

Park Projects Underway – Several park projects are currently underway. The Lake Whetstone Boat Dock Renovation began on April 13 and is anticipated to be completed by early May. In addition, construction has started on a new bocce court at William Hurley Park, with completion expected by Memorial Day weekend.
State Grant – Thanks in large part to Senator King, MVF was able to secure an additional $365,000 in non-matching state funds for the Theater Pond Project and the replacement of the playground at South Valley Park. Originally, MVF had secured $1,250,000 in state grant funding for these projects; that total has now increased to $1,615,000. These funds will support the renovation of Theater Pond, the planting of 20 trees and improvements to the playground adjacent to the Lawn Theater.
Tree City Award – Montgomery Village has been named a Tree City by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 38th consecutive year. To celebrate this achievement, recognize Arbor Day and honor the service of Doniele Ayres, we will be planting a Sweetbay Magnolia at Lake Whetstone Park on Wednesday, April 29 at 5:30 p.m. We hope you can join us.
End of 2026 Legislative Session – The 248th Maryland Legislative Session has concluded with several bills introduced (or reintroduced from prior years) for consideration. Two bills passed that impact the local HOAs/Condos and MVF, but the impact is minimal, as both already have processes or policies in place.
HB855 – Allows signage to be placed on private property for up to 45 days before a primary or general election, or a vote on a proposition. MVF’s current policy allows 30 days, so it will be updated and brought to the MVF Board of Directors to include the legally
required timeframe.
HB405 – Eliminates a board’s ability to unreasonably restrict the installation of charging stations for vehicles.
