Consider biking to work on Bike to Work Day, Friday, May 17. Organized by Council of Governments’ Commuter Connections program and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, participants can leave their cars at home and bike to their places of employment as a healthy and fun way to start their day.

With more than 100 pit stops throughout Maryland, DC, and Virginia, including two in Gaithersburg: Kentlands, Main Street Pavilion from 7 to 9 a.m. and Olde Town Plaza from 4 to 6 p.m., and one in Germantown at the Black Rock Center for the Arts from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., Montgomery Village residents can participate right here at home.

The first 16,000 participants who stop by a pit stop will grab a free commemorative t-shirt and a chance to win a new bike. Many pit stops will also provide free giveaways, food and beverages while supplies last.
