Stay off frozen lakes and ponds

As a winter safety reminder, please stay off the ice on Montgomery Village lakes and ponds. It is impossible to judge ice thickness just by looking, and ice that is solid in one spot may be dangerously thin just a few feet away. Pets can also fall through the ice, so please keep dogs leashed near the lakes. Remember, ice skating, walking and playing on the ice are not permitted at any of the MVF lakes and ponds. Help keep our community safe this winter by enjoying the lakes and ponds from the shoreline only.

If you do see children or others venturing out onto the ice, please report it immediately to the Montgomery County Police using the non-emergency dispatch at 301-279-8000 or call the MVF Office during business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you see anyone fall through the ice, call 911 immediately.
