Fall fun: 4 family events you won’t want to miss

August is coming to an end, which means fall is right around the corner. Get ready for crisp weather, colorful leaves, pumpkin-themed fun, Halloween excitement, and plenty of opportunities to make memories with family and friends.

Looking for ways to enjoy the season? Here are four family-friendly events you won’t want to miss this fall in Montgomery Village.

Floating Pumpkin Patch

Date: Sunday, Sept. 27
Time: 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Location: Stedwick Pool, 10401 Stedwick Road

Kick off the fall season with a splash! Children ages 1 to 12 can enjoy a morning that includes a pumpkin craft, pool games, and the chance to float alongside pumpkins before selecting one to take home. Participants must register by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24.

The Great Pumpkin Race and Fall Festival

Date: Saturday, Oct. 3
Time: 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Location: North Creek Community Center, 20125 Arrowhead Road

Start planning your winning strategy! Compete in the pumpkin race and design a pumpkin race, putting it to the test on race day. An official race referee will be on-site with a giant hammer ready to smash any cheater pumpkins!

Plus, enjoy live music, food, and festive activities for all ages at the fall festival.

Jack-O-Lantern 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run

Date: Saturday, Oct. 10
Location: Lake Marion Community Center, 8821 East Village Avenue

Schedule:

• 1:30 p.m. – Packet Pickup
• 2:30 p.m. – 1-Mile Fun Run
• 3 p.m. – 5K Race

Lace up your running shoes and join us for the inaugural Montgomery Village Jack-O-Lantern 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to wear costumes and take part in the costume contest.

All participants will receive a custom finisher medal, and winners will earn special ribbon clips for their medals. Registration is limited, and the first 200 registrants will receive a free race shirt.

Halloween Flashlight Hunt

Date: Saturday, Oct. 17
Location: Gordon W. Bowie Music Pavilion, 19003 Watkins Mill Road

Bring your flashlight, wear your favorite costume, and get ready to hunt for treats! Families with children aged 2 to 12 are invited to enjoy this festive, not-so-spooky Halloween tradition. Before the hunt, enjoy family activities and a campfire complete with marshmallows.

Hunt Times:

• Ages 2 to 5: 6 p.m. (during daylight)
• Ages 2 to 5: 6:30 p.m.
• Ages 5 to 8: 7 p.m.
• Ages 9 to 12: 7:30 p.m.

Registration Fees:

• $8 per child through Oct. 9
• $10 per child after Oct. 9

Registration closes Wednesday, Oct. 14. Adults are free but must accompany their children.
