Blessing Box installed in Maryland Place

articles-482

On Thursday, Sept. 17, the Maryland Place Board of Directors celebrated the neighborhood groundbreaking for installation of a community Blessing Box. This was the culmination of a project completed by Eva Lake Olan for her Girl Scout Silver Award and had been approved by the Maryland Place board to be placed at the top of the Transhire Road loop.

Eva coordinated the efforts to make and install the box, and constructed the box with the help of her dad. Together, they assembled the box, dug the post hole, filled it with cement and installed the box. This took most of the 50 hours required to achieve the Silver Award; Eva plans to organize a community cleanup and a fundraiser to fill the box with the help of other nearby Girl Scouts in October to fulfill the rest of the service hours. The Silver Award requires a lasting, beneficial project that provides a sustained community improvement.

Eva has been a girl scout with Troop 6924 for 5 years. Troop 6924 is a French Immersion troop affiliated with Maryvale Elementary School.

The Blessing Box pantry will offer non-perishable food items to residents in need. Neighbors and friends are invited to contribute cans or boxes of non-perishable food items to the box; with a little community participation, the Blessing Box should be well stocked! Those who need an item or two are welcome to what the box has to offer!

Congratulations and thank you to Eva for this wonderful addition to the community!
