Want to whack a weed?
Learning about Community Supported Agriculture and how to whack a weed will be the focus of the next meeting of the Montgomery Village Garden Club on Monday, March 10, at 7 p.m. at Whetstone Community Center, 19140 Brooke Grove Court.
With greater attention to our sustainable food choices, the garden club will offer a presentation by Dr. Dan Berbert describing his establishment of CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) on just 3 acres of land. He will discuss the challenges and successes of growing sustainably a wide variety of flowers, vegetables and fruits. His produce will be available at the Montgomery Village Farmers’ Market, which will open for the 2025 season on Saturday, June 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will continue to operate on Saturdays through Oct. 25. The location will be the parking lot of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 9801 Centerway Road.
After the CSA presentation, do you want to whack a weed? Okay, but first we need to make sure that a weed green sprout is really a weed.
A weed identification method, presented by the MV Garden Club’s Master Gardeners, will sort matters out. Experienced weed whacker members will also relate their tried-and-true methods of extermination, from the flame thrower to the lethal vinegar routines.
Refreshments will be served and all are welcome. Come and bring your weed whacking and CSA questions. Contact us at montgomeryvillagegardenclub.weebly.com.
