Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center Waves Adoption Fees Aug. 23 and Aug. 24
Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) will waive pet adoption fees Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 23 and Aug. 24, as part of NBCUniversal Local’s 2025 “Clear the Shelters” campaign. Last year, 145 pets found homes during the event.
MCASAC is located at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood.
“Clear the Shelters is always an exciting event, and we love seeing all of the empty kennels afterward,” said Faith Koleszar, MCASAC adoption supervisor. “We have so many wonderful pets looking for new homes.”
Adoptions are first-come, first-served by appointment. Walk-ins are welcome based on counselor availability and may experience longer wait times. The center will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Make an appointment on the MCASAC How to Adopt page. Adopters should come prepared to take their pet home at the end of their appointment. A leash and collar are required for dogs, and a carrier is needed for cats or small animals. No holds will be placed.
MCASAC is operated by the Office of Animal Services and is the county's only open-admission municipal shelter. The center promotes responsible pet care through adoptions, education and outreach. Animal services officers are available 24/7 to respond to emergencies and investigate complaints.
