I would like to express my deep sadness and disapproval of stream (demolition) restoration projects currently being proposed along North Creek behind AppleRidge and Shadow Oak Communities.

I have been studying these projects for several years now and can say for certain, they are enormously harmful to the environment, nature and wildlife habitat.

These projects, driven by Chesapeake Bay sediment reduction credit quotas, are in no way benefiting the Bay. Numerous studies have found that these projects do not work, in fact they are counter productive. The studies have found they provide no "uplift" (improvement) to aquatic species and do irreparable harm to hundreds of years of established forests, vegetation and natural habitat.

County-wide, these projects have clear cut over 1,700 trees, demolished over 3,000 acres of stream valley corridors and decimated critical habitat for fox, deer, racoon, rabbit, beaver, hawks, fish, turtles, snakes and so many more that inhabit these precious sanctuaries by turning stream valley corridors into storm water management facilities.

Please voice your opposition to these projects by sending an email to our MVF Board President and Directors.

Thank you.
