The Seneca Valley Sugarloafers Volksmarch Club is sponsoring the Jackie Johnson Memorial Walk in Boyds, Maryland on Saturday, May 31. This walk honors Diana Jacqueline (Jackie) Johnson, who passed away on May 17, 2024. Jackie helped found the Sugarloafers on June 4, 1987 and helped organize the first Sugarloafers’ walk at Black Hill Regional Park in 1987. Black Hill is a 2,000-acre park with spectacular views of Little Seneca Lake.
The trail, rated 2, is a 10km (6.2 miles) course mostly on natural surfaces. There are several hills. This is a woodland trail and not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers. A shorter trail (5km, 3.1 miles) is also available.
The Start/Finish point is Black Hill Regional Park, 20930 Lake Ridge Road, Picnic Shelter C, in Boyds, Maryland 20841. Registration is between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Walkers must finish the walk by 3 p.m.
The participation fee is $4 for walkers 13+ years of age. All events sponsored by the Seneca Valley Sugarloafers are free for anyone 12 years and younger. Restrooms and water are available near the Start/Finish point. Pets are allowed but must be kept leashed at all times, and owners must clean up after their pets.
