Committee members, chairs reaffirmed at April MVF Board meeting
In any given year, more than 150 volunteers in the community fill positions on the boards of directors and committees, providing oversight and advice and helping make decisions that keep neighborhoods and Montgomery Village as a whole, the best it can be.
Community efforts were shining bright in celebration of Earth Day 2024
It was wonderful to see so many people around the Village celebrating Earth Day 2024. On Monday, April 22, several residents were spotted picking up trash along roadsides, planting native flowers in gardens and enjoying the beautiful weather.
From the desk of the EVP: A look back at April growth in Montgomery Village
The spring season is synonymous with growth, change and rebirth. As soon as the weather starts to change and the flowers and trees start to bloom, we are reminded of the newness of the year and the changes to come. In thinking about that change over time, and the growth of the Village, I thought it would be interesting to look back at some important changes in Village history that happened in the month of April.
Metro’s Board of Directors has approved the elimination of the $2 fee on Senior SmarTrip® cards. Beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 16, Senior SmarTrip cards will be issued at no cost to customers ages 65 and older.
In November, the water level at Lake Marion was lowered following a partial collapse of one of the toe drains in the dam. This issue was identified during an inspection conducted by Montgomery County, which is responsible for the structural maintenance of the pond. The lowered water level has exposed a sediment delta on the side of the lake closest to the Lake Marion Community Center.
In the week prior to the Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF) Board of Directors December 7 meeting, Monument Realty informed the Board that they would need to postpone their presentation regarding a proposed change to Area 2 development in Bloom Village to early 2024.
Trash collection is a service paid for by homeowners and managed through a contract by their local homes corporation or condominium association.
Following an inspection of Lake Marion by staff in August, the county was notified of a potential problem with one of the toe drains. Upon further inspection, the county recently told staff that the drain was in a state of partial collapse and needs to be fixed (this is a county responsibility).
