Lakeforest Mall Update

In late July, WRS, a South Carolina-based developer, bought the core section of the mall (400,000 sq. ft.) on about 47 acres of the 100 plus acre site. They did not purchase any of the anchor store properties or parking associated with them. The mall property is within the City of Gaithersburg, who has their own zoning authority separate from Montgomery County. The city council has announced that it will consider placing a development moratorium on the site so that a study can be completed in about 18 months to determine the future land use of the property. MVF will be monitoring the process and will keep the community informed about important meetings or other issues that arise.

Goshen Road Improvements

Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has funding for a $2 Million roadway patching, milling and resurfacing project on Goshen Road from Odend’hal Avenue to Brink Road. This work is scheduled to begin in spring of 2020. Until then the local MCDOT Depot will continue to monitor and perform roadway repairs as necessary.

Street Light Update

Construction of the new street lights on Montgomery Village Avenue has been completed, and Pepco should have the lights energized by the end of September. Construction continues on the new street light installation on East Village Avenue, and they are expected to be energized in October. The county contractor will be reseeding areas that were impacted during the construction.
